Old School Geek

Geek /gēk/

Noun: An unfashionable or socially inept person.

While this moniker was once used as an unflattering and derogatory expression in the not-so-distant past, this simple word has since been transformed into a badge of honor among those who follow its precepts. And if ever there was a time to fly your geek flag high and proud, that time is now!

Welcome to the era of the Geek! You, my friend, are fortunate enough to be living in a time when geek is king. Gone are the days of unfashionable glasses, social oafishness and sinus congestion. The nouveau geek is anything but boring. While still possessing certain identifiable traits, the spectrum of qualifications has blossomed into a rich cross section of passionate pursuits. We may not be on the cover of Vogue or GQ, but there is no denying that our lot are definitely some of the more interesting and spirited people on the planet.

Say it with me….. I am geek and I am proud!

I’d love to hear your feedback. Are you a geek? What is it that makes you one? Do you think the geek label still holds negative connotations?

And on a parting note, this was one of the Urban Dictionary definitions that I especially liked:

Geek – The people you pick on in high school and wind up working for as an adult.
