We all know the story, Doc Brown appears from the future to Marty Mcfly and his girlfriend telling them that they gotta go to the future to save their future children…awkward. They jump in the Delorean and end up in the not so distant future of 2015, where they have all manner of Zemekis future gadgetry.
Mattel is realeasing one of the 3 coolest gadgets of the Back to the Future movies…the Hoverboard. ( In 2011 Nike released the “Nike Mag” a B.T.T.F 2 inspired shoe with a glowing Nike tag on the strap, unfortunatley they didn’t automatically lace up. The shoes were pretty cool but what was even cooler was that all the proceeds went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease Research. And of course the other cool gadet is the Delorean that can TRAVEL in TIME! If you don’t think thats cool, please tear up your Geek Card now.)
The full scale 1:1 Hoverboard is rumored to have wooshing sounds and “…will glide over most surfaces,” Mattel said in a post on its collector blog.
Mattel said, “Because this is such a high-cost item, there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production, If we don’t receive the minimum orders,[we] won’t go into production and customers will not be charged.”
The board will more than likely glide than hover but lets be honest here…if this thing will remotley resemble floating the masses (especially those who grew up watching these movies) will eat it up! I wouldn’t worry too much about Mattel filling orders…people have bought stupider items for more. The Hoverboard is “slated” for Christmas.
